Test integrated enterprise solutions from Univention and Zarafa at the CeBIT
According to Univention, there is ongoing interest in the combination of the Univention Corporate Server and the Open Source groupware Zarafa as an alternative for Windows servers. Since December, the software producer already reports more than 6500 downloads of its infrastructure solution UCS, which is equipped with Active-Directory compatible services, mostly in Germany. Zarafa’s Open Source groupware and collaboration software, which can be compared to Microsoft Exchange, can be installed in UCS with just a few clicks. Visitors can get to know this combination on Univention’s CeBIT booth E16 in hall 6, on which Zarafa is also represented.
Bremen, Delft, 4th March 2013. The CeBIT is opening its gates once again from Tuesday till Saturday. Open source groupware company Zarafa and software company Univention show here how simple it is for enterprises to utilize the Univention
Corporate Server (UCS) and Zarafa as an alternative to solutions such as the MS Small Business Server (SBS).
Open source server operating system UCS with Active Directory features
The software producer from Bremen states, that their Open Source product UCS offers former SBS customers all necessary functions for operation, integration and administration of IT infrastructure and server services. This also includes many features, such as virtualization components, which have to be bought and administered separately with other manufacturers. Windows PCs can be operated with UCS just as easy as with Microsoft products, since the product contains Active Directory domain services which are crucial for the operation of a Windows PC. Changing from SBS to UCS is done with a tool which automatically transfers users and computer objects as well as group guidelines from the Active Directory environment to the directory service of the UCS. In this way administrators can also replace an Active Directory Server by UCS. Furthermore UCS enables the use of e.g. groupware or document management systems in the cloud. Users can decide here if and if yes, which service they want to run at which cloud provider. Free test versions of UCS can be found ready for download on Univention’s website: https://www.univention.com/download-and-support/
Open source groupware Zarafa as MS Exchange replacement
Next to Microsoft Outlook also smartphones have established themselves as must have gadgets in today’s business life. Zarafa integrates these systems in a simple and stable manner with Linux servers such as UCS. The Zarafa WebApp offers a highly extensible, easily maintainable, enterprise class web client with online access to the groupware system and advanced features such as chat integration and web meetings.
Install and use Zarafa with just a few clicks
Zarafa can be installed on UCS in the Univention App Center with just a few clicks. The simple installation as an app and the integration in the Univention management system, reduces the required time until the first login to the Zarafa system and the first email sent considerably. Especially -but not exclusively- administrators of Small Business systems appreciate this simple integration, which covers all services a MS Small Business Server usually uses.
