CeBIT: Try out flexible server alternatives with a wide range of business applications live
Univention, a manufacturer of Open Source software products for the operation and management of IT infrastructures, will be demonstrating in Hall 6 (Booth E 16) at CeBIT how the new Univention App Center can be used to set up a wide range of IT business applications in just a few steps and integrate them in a complete IT concept — irrespective of whether the applications are operated on the company’s network or on the cloud. The shared booth will also host seven Univention partners exhibiting applications optimised for use with Univention Corporate Server. In addition, the Document Foundation will be demonstrating the free Microsoft Office alternative LibreOffice at the Univention booth.
Bremen, 31st January 2013. This year, CeBIT visitors can find the Univention shared booth together with the considerably enlarged Open Source Park in spacious Hall 6. Among other things, the visitors can experience for themselves at the different demopoints on the Univention booth how business applications can be installed with just a few mouse clicks in the UCS App Center and integrated in the Active Directory-compatible domain concept. The spectrum of available solutions is extremely broad — stretching from the Microsoft Exchange groupware alternative Zarafa and the file sharing software ownCloud to the OTRS-based IT service management solution KIXbox right up to the customer management system SugarCRM, the high availability solution DRBD and the VoIP system Asterisk.
Operate business applications locally or on the cloud completely without problems
Univention shows how you can implement these different business applications simply and quickly in a new way and by doing so create an integral and central domain and user management concept, irrespective of whether the applications run locally or on the cloud. The visitors are given a taste of how easy it is to implement new applications on the tried-and-tested UCS platform and at the same time local, organisation-internal IT services can be connected with applications housed on the cloud.
Integrated Open Source solutions based on UCS
In addition to the Document Foundation, which will be exhibiting LibreOffice, there will also be seven Univention partners on the Univention booth this year: the groupware manufacturer Zarafa, the IT service management experts c.a.p.e. IT, the Open Source service provider DECOIT, the Hamburg-based system house DIGITEC, the Braunschweig-based system house LINET Services, ownCloud as the provider of the file-sharing software of the same name for cloud scenarios and the Austrian experts in high availability and disaster recovery technologies LINBIT. The Zarafa demopoint gives visitors a chance to test the groupware solution of the same name also available in the Univention App Center, which together with UCS represents an economic alternative to Microsoft‘s Small Business Server. The Chemnitz-based c.a.p.e IT will be launching a new version of the ITIL policy-compliant solution “KIXbox” for IT service management at CeBIT, which is also available in the App Center.
ownCloud will be demonstrating its solution for storing and synchronising files in the company and on the cloud at the Univention booth; the solution can also by installed via the Univention App Center. A recent addition to the Univention App Center is the high availability solution DRBD, which visitors can try out at the demopoint of the Austrian disaster recovery experts LINBIT.
Bremen-based DECOIT will be providing information on the VoIP solution in the Univention App Center “Asterisk” and additional Open Source business solutions. The system and development house DIGITEC will be showing interested visitors not only complete Open Source application stacks for business use, but also the customer management solution SugarCRM, which is also included in the App Center.
At the demopoint of the Braunschweig-based Linux system house LINET Services visitors can view Version 3 of the ERP package “kivitendo” and are given a first glimpse into its application on the UCS platform.
Open Source software portfolio from desktop virtualization up to school IT infrastructure
In addition, visitors to the Univention demopoints in Hall 6 can also familiarise themselves with additional Univention software products for the operation and centrally controlled management of virtual desktops and UCS@school, the IT infrastructure optimised for schools and education authorities which is available in the Univention App Center in its brand new release 3.1.
