LSE LinOTP offers two-factor authentication for Univention Corporate Server

With LSE LinOTP there is now a two-factor authentication solution available in the Univention App Center which can be integrated in existing IT infrastructures with just a few clicks of  the mouse. The combination of the two factors “possession” and “knowledge” guarantees particularly high security standards, for example for external access to company networks. The integration in the Univention Corporate Server (UCS) allows the use of the user data available centrally in UCS for the administration of the authentication devices.

Bremen / Weiterstadt, 5th November 2013. With the integration of LinOTP from LSE Leading Security Experts GmbH in the Univention App Center, Univention is expanding the application spectrum of its complete server solution UCS in the field of “strong, two-factor authentication”. LSE LinOTP permits users to choose between hardware tokens, soft tokens and apps for creating one-time passwords for logging on to different services, clients or servers.

Through the use of one-time passwords (OTP), LSE LinOTP complements existing components with the request of an additional factor, the OTP generator (token). LinOTP can be used in a wide range of different scenarios in which high login security is required, for example for logging on to web services and Internet portals, VPN solutions, terminal servers, clients, file servers or proprietary applications as well as cloud services and bring your own device (BYOD) concepts.

In combination with UCS, LSE LinOTP offers a high-performance solution which can be efficiently controlled and which can access the user data stored centrally in UCS via the integrated LDAP directory service and assign the required tokens. This significantly simplifies token management for administrators who use LinOTP and offers UCS users a strong security component for different authentication procedures. Firewalls and gateways already in use such as OpenVPN, Citrix or Juniper can be combined with LinOTP without any problems.

Peter Ganten, Managing Director of Univention, stated, “Our experiences with a range of customers have shown us that user passwords are often the weakest link in the security chain. That is why we are so thrilled that with LSE LinOTP there is now such an easily implementable solution available for UCS.” Cornelius Kölbel, Head of Product Management at LSE, added, “In combination with the App Center, the intelligent structure of the Univention Corporate Server allows the administrator to install and employ LinOTP in just a few minutes without any extensive prior knowledge. The full support of Univention simplified the integration of LinOTP in UCS and the App Center enormously and is a shining example of a reliable partnership.”
