Printer management

Univention Corporate Server (UCS) has its own CUPS-based print system (Common Unix Printing System), with which it is possible to create extensive print environments. Printers and printer groups can be conveniently created and configured in the UCS management system via the Univention Management Console. The printers are available to both Linux/Unix clients and Windows or Mac OS X systems. The printer drivers are available on the server side respectively.

The use of Samba makes it possible to administrate printers in an Active Directory domain via UCS too.

Policy-based print quota in UCS

UCS allows setting of a print quota for printer groups and printers. The quota policies can be defined for users or user groups. Alongside a limitation of the possible print jobs, the system calculates the incurred printing costs and also offers evaluations. The policy-based administration means that these settings can be easily adopted for other users. The Univention Management Console shows whether the print quota function is enabled and how many print jobs can still be ordered.

Test UCS

The UCS printer management with CUPS can be tested in the free UCS Core Edition.
