Improved integration in Active Directory domains
Bremen, 13th August 2014. Univention GmbH, a leading European provider of Open Source products for the cost-effective operation and efficient administration of IT infrastructures, has released a new update for Univention Corporate Server (UCS). In version 3.2-3 the new module “Active Directory Connection” replaces the previous AD connector for mounting a UCS installation in an AD domain.
Users can now also configure their UCS system as part of an existing AD domain. This offers them improved flexibility in the migration of Microsoft systems and they do not need to replace their existing AD in one go. In addition, version 3.2-3 also includes a whole range of further innovations: a completely revised system setup wizard, which now guides you through the setup procedure in a self-explanatory manner and with minimal technical complexity, a backport of PHP 5.4.4, which replaces the previous version PHP 5.3.3, and improved replication between OpenLDAP and Samba 4. In addition, the Linux kernel package has been updated to version 3.10.11 for the update release and the AD compatibility improved with support of the Microsoft Data Protection Application Program Interface (DPAPI).
The introduction of the Active Directory connection module offers users a whole range of advantages. It makes manual changes to the Active Directory superfluous as it is no longer necessary to install the password service. In addition, apps from independent third-party suppliers can now be used “out of the box” in an AD domain. In this way version 3.2.-3 also makes it easier for interested parties to take their first steps by testing UCS or apps without making any changes to the AD and without a second domain.
