Bremen, November 12, 2024– Univention announces the release of Nubus for Kubernetes, now available in its fully operational version 1.0. Nubus empowers organizations to create large application environments that are user-friendly and highly scalable, all while managing identities, permissions, and application access centrally and efficiently. With Nubus, operators maintain full flexibility and transparency in every process, as the solution—like all Univention software—is designed as Open Source.
An initial alpha version of Nubus was released in June and has been continuously developed since. At the same time, Nubus for Kubernetes became part of openDesk, the Sovereign Workplace for Public Administration, developed by the Center for Digital Sovereignty and released in mid-October.
“We’re thrilled to make the full feature set of Nubus available as a standalone solution with the release of Nubus for Kubernetes 1.0,” says Peter Ganten, CEO of Univention. “This newly launched version provides a fully automated software lifecycle, robust security standards, scalability, and operational redundancy. Nubus for Kubernetes is the ideal platform for operators of cloud services and large-scale IT environments.”
Convenient and Secure Access to All Applications
With Nubus, users get easy, secure access to every application they need—all with a single login. This solution brings powerful integration across a range of applications and services, making it simple to manage user accounts, permissions, and app connections securely. And it’s all fully aligned with BSI IT Baseline Protection requirements.
Nubus serves as the central hub for managing an organization’s digital identities, bringing all relevant information on user accounts, groups, and permissions together in one place. With standardized interfaces for user authentication and access to user data, operators and integrators can easily connect third-party applications. The user-friendly portal gives users seamless access to their organization’s IT environment, where they can also manage their own accounts and reset passwords through integrated self-service options.
Built for Large-Scale Cloud Infrastructures
Nubus for Kubernetes is designed specifically for cloud paradigms and DevOps methods. The entire software lifecycle—from installation and upgrades to scaling—is fully automated. Integrating external applications is seamless, too. Applications provided by Univention or by other operators can be added as “packaged integrations,” fitting right into the automated software lifecycle.
Nubus for Kubernetes is designed with a modular approach, so every component can scale and stay redundant when needed, tapping into Kubernetes automation where it counts. Along with the flexibility of a fully Open Source solution, Nubus operators benefit from tailored service-level agreements, optional project support, and product warranties—straight from the source.
Nubus Now Also Available for Univention Corporate Server (UCS)
For organizations looking to deploy Nubus quickly as their identity management solution—even without a Kubernetes setup—there’s now a Univention Corporate Server (UCS) version available. This UCS option provides all the core functionality of Nubus, and if the time comes to switch to Kubernetes, the transition is smooth and straightforward.
