For IT Admins

Univention Corporate Server (UCS) is a Debian GNU/Linux-based server appliance that allows you to centrally and conveniently administrate (virtual) servers, applications, clients, users, and access rights. As UCS completely pre-configures the integrated software, you do not need any special Linux know-how. So you save configuration efforts during system setup.

Thanks to its multi-server concept, UCS is scalable and redundant. You can integrate Windows, Linux, and macOS systems in UCS and manage all IT resources via standardized APIs and the graphical web interface – the Univention Management Console (UMC). The directory service based on OpenLDAP provides a domain-wide standardized and central data management which is accessed by all services of the domain. The Univention App Center allows you to integrate new services in the UCS domain and manage them centrally. UCS is 100% Open Source and offers all advantages of Open Software combined with professional maintenance and support.

Integrating and Operating IT Services

UCS comes with a selection of integrated standard services such as file, print, mail or self services. You can connect additional services via interfaces or integrate them as UCS extensions or third-party applications from the Univention App Center to manage all centrally via the UMC. Through the individually customizable portal, you can give users quick and easy access to the services released to them. UCS uses standards such as LDAP, Kerberos, PAM, SAML, and OpenID Connect to authenticate users to the services.

User and Rights Management

Via the user manager, administrators can create, search or delete users at a central location, administrate passwords, and assign rights such as access rights to services and resources (WLAN, printer, etc.). Attribute-defined user templates and group-based concepts make administration particularly easy, even for many users.

OpenLDAP and Active Directory Functions

In the central directory service OpenLDAP, all information relevant for the domain is standardized and stored scalably. Samba 4, integrated in UCS, offers Active Directory compatible services so that you can use UCS as a complete replacement of a Microsoft server solution. Or you can connect UCS to an existing AD domain for simultaneously operation of Open Source solutions and Microsoft applications.

Management and Monitoring

Using integrated DNS and DHCP services, you can also manage large networks centrally. These include printer management via CUPS, CIFS or SMB3 as protocols for the implementation of central file services. The monitoring functions offered by UCS e.g. the UCS Dashboard based on Graphana and Prometheus, and the UCS Admin Diary are also helpful for you as administrator.
