Solution
- Univention Corporate Server (UCS) as Identity & Access Management solution.
- Authentication of users.

- Integration of existing systems such as Zimbra Groupware Server, Checkmk and Windows & Linux servers.
Initial Situation
Miraplast Kunststoffverarbeitungs GmbH was faced with the challenge of replacing an outdated identity management system. The existing solution no longer met current requirements and was not future-proof. The company was looking for a scalable, locally operated solution that would enable centralized management of applications, users and resources. Compatibility with the existing IT environment, including Windows and Linux systems and the use of Microsoft Outlook, was also important.
The Solution
The choice fell on the Identity & Access Management solution Univention Corporate Server (UCS). The IAM solution impressed the IT managers with its user-friendly administration and the ability to centrally manage heterogeneous environments. The extensive functions such as identity management, access management, authentication and network management for DNS and DHCP were important features. Another plus point was the easy integration of existing systems such as Zimbra Groupware Server, Checkmk and Windows and Linux servers into the new infrastructure, which enabled seamless collaboration.
The Implementation
After a thorough evaluation, the project began with a pilot in which the new solution was tested intensively. In close cooperation with Siedl Networks – responsible for the implementation – and the IT consultant Grasl EDV, the system was eventually successfully taken into productive operation. The migration went smoothly and without any major challenges – proof of the project team’s high level of professionalism.
The next step was to implement the groupware connection. Miraplast selected the Zimbra Collaboration Suite, a powerful e-mail and groupware solution that can be used both via Outlook and via a web interface.
The Siedl Networks Zimbra-LDAP-Connector was used to integrate Univention Corporate Server (UCS) with Zimbra. This enables the seamless synchronization of user accounts, groups and resources from any LDAP directory (e.g. Active Directory or OpenLDAP) to Zimbra. It also offers comprehensive configuration options, including the management of personalized e-mail signatures based on LDAP attributes. Thanks to central authentication via UCS, users can log in with their usual user name and password and gain direct access to the groupware solution – securely, conveniently and efficiently.
