Synapse is the reference implementation for a Matrix Server. Matrix is an open communication protocol for secure and decentralized communication, where teams or groups organize themselves in virtual rooms. Matrix servers replicate the encrypted conversations between the participating dialog partners across server boundaries.

Organizations can use Matrix to operate their own open messaging infrastructure and are thus free to decide where and by whom the infrastructure is operated and who has access to the data generated in it.

The app installs Synapse on UCS and uses the UCS directory service for user management. Users have to be enabled for Synapse in the UCS user management afterwards. To use the server for messaging, the app Element from the Univention App Center is required.

For support in managing Synapse, please join the room #synapse:matrix.org and ask your questions there from a user account on matrix.org.
