Convenient creation of apps for UCS
Software producers who use the online build platform openSUSE Build Service for the automatic creation of installation packages for various Linux distributions can now also use it for packages for Univention Corporate Server. These packages can then be made available for installation via the App Center integrated in Univention Corporate Server.
Bremen / Nuremberg 8th October 2013: The Open Build Service (OBS) operated by SUSE now also supports Univention Corporate Server as a target platform. The Open Build Service is a distributed platform for the convenient creation of installation packages for various Linux distributions and hardware architectures and in addition to the newly added Univention Corporate Server also supports
another 22 different operating systems and 6 architectures. The openSUSE developers also use the openSUSE Build Service to create their distribution images.
The openSUSE Build Service (https://build.opensuse.org/) (openSBS) is an instance of the Open Build Service (OBS) which is publicly accessible via a web interface and currently administrates over 33,700 projects in almost 220,000 packages from nearly 50,000 package sources. Today’s approximately 40,000 developers will soon be joined by others who want to develop and make available
apps for the Univention Corporate Server App Center.
Software producers can benefit from the openSUSE Build Service in a number of ways: for example, if they want to make their applications available for several platforms at a time. Using the service spares you the otherwise necessary maintenance of your own build environments, which can be both costly and time-consuming with the increasing number of target platforms which need to be supported. With openSUSE Build Service, developers can simply upload their source code conveniently, select Univention Corporate Server as the target platform and receive the finished package for UCS in next to no time.
After Univention and SUSE both received many requests from software developers for UCS support in the openSUSE Build Service, the Bremen-based Linux distributor was able to implement UCS support in the openSUSE Build Service in cooperation with the SUSE OBS team quickly and efficiently. As such, the first finished UCS apps could be available in the openSUSE Build Service in the near future.
