Management of virtual private networks with Univention Corporate Server

New app for VPN management available in the Univention App Center

Mobile access to corporate infrastructures is becoming ever more widespread and as such so is the necessity to construct secure private networks. These must be easy to manage and it must be possible to mount them in existing IT infrastructures without any problems. For this reason, bytemine GmbH from Oldenburg, Germany, has now developed in OpenVPN4UCS a solution which is integrated in Univention Corporate Server (UCS) and published in this server system’s App Center. It offers companies a cost-effective and easy-to-operate possibility for constructing and managing VPNs.

CeBIT premiere: Univention App Center becomes a marketplace for business IT

Suppliers can now also offer corporate solutions for sale in the Univention App Center

Bremen, 10th March 2014. Univention GmbH, a leading European provider of Open Source products for the cost-efficient operation and effective administration of IT infrastructures (www.univention.com) will be demonstrating the new, expanded marketplace version of the App Center for the first time at the CeBIT in Hanover (10th-14th March, Hall 6, Booth H15). Users of the enterprise operating system Univention Corporate Server (UCS) can now not only install applications with a click of the mouse in the App Center, but also have the possibility of purchasing the respective app there directly from the supplier. The new function will be used by a number of applications such as the groupware solutions Open-Xchange and Zarafa and the file-sharing platform ownCloud right from the start. Visitors to the Univention booth at the CeBIT will be able to get an idea of the new possibilities of the App Center and experience additional new UCS features such as the AD-Takeover wizard for the simple migration of Active Directory domains, for example.

New operating mode makes UCS the ideal expansion for Microsoft environments

CeBIT 2014: Univention AD-Takeover simplifies migration from Active Directory domains

Bremen, 5th February 2014. Univention GmbH, a leading European provider of Open Source products for the cost-efficient operation and effective administration of IT infrastructures will be exhibiting a new wizard for Active Directory domain migration at the CeBIT in Hanover (10th-14th March, Hall 6, Booth H15): AD-Takeover. The wizard makes the migration from Microsoft AD domains to Univention Corporate Server (UCS) child’s play. The new tool is also of considerable benefit to system houses with customers who use the discontinued Microsoft Small Business Server and are now looking for a simple means of migrating away from the discontinued product. However, the enterprise operating system UCS is not only suitable as an alternative to Microsoft servers. Thanks to an additional function, which Univention is also presenting at CeBIT, the mounting of a UCS system in an existing Windows environment is performed just as Windows administrators are used to.This makes UCS an ideal platform for integrating additional business applications in existing Active Directory environments via the Univention App Center.

Trends and sales opportunities in business IT

Univention Summit 2014: Paradigm shift and perspectives for the open cloud

Bremen, 16th January 2014 +++ More than 200 partners and customers seized the opportunity to find out more about and discuss innovations, trends and sales opportunities at this year’s Univention Summit in Bremen. Topics such as clouds, migration and technologies such as SAML (Security Assertion Markup Language) were the focus of many of the presentations. For example, former IBM CTO Günther Dueck appeared as a guest speaker with a presentation entitled “Beyond Cloud” explaining cloud computing as a principle which extends far beyond IT and outlining the disruptive changes which can result from it. Keynote speaker Arno Lehmann from Bacula Systems also gave a speech on the topic “Manchmal ist die Cloud keine Option”
(Sometimes a cloud is not an option). In addition, Univention partners reported on how they market UCS successfully and deploy it in actual projects. To round everything off, Univention (www.univention.de) then presented the 2014 roadmap, introducing the further development of the Business Server and the App Center, which will be expanded into a marketplace in the future. Univention Corporate Server (UCS) users will then be able to locate corporate applications there conveniently as well as buy them directly.

Install secure user login simply from the Univention App Center with a click of the mouse

LSE LinOTP offers two-factor authentication for Univention Corporate Server

With LSE LinOTP there is now a two-factor authentication solution available in the Univention App Center which can be integrated in existing IT infrastructures with just a few clicks of  the mouse. The combination of the two factors “possession” and “knowledge” guarantees particularly high security standards, for example for external access to company networks. The integration in the Univention Corporate Server (UCS) allows the use of the user data available centrally in UCS for the administration of the authentication devices.

With its SAML app, Univention has now released a single sign-on solution for web applications

Manage log-in data for different cloud services securely and centrally

With the SAML app in the Univention App Center, the software manufacturer Univention has now developed a single sign-on solution for logging on to different important cloud services. The application makes it possible to store user names and passwords internally and maintain them. In this way, companies can provide their employees with access to web services such as Dropbox, Salesforce or Google Apps without the employees having to register personally and log on afresh every time, as the central access can be performed via the infrastructure solution Univention Corporate Server (UCS), in which SAML can be easily integrated.

Univention Corporate Server available in openSUSE Build Service

Convenient creation of apps for UCS

Software producers who use the online build platform openSUSE Build Service for the automatic creation of installation packages for various Linux distributions can now also use it for packages for Univention Corporate Server. These packages can then be made available for installation via the App Center integrated in Univention Corporate Server.

DFKI and Univention develop selective replication mechanisms for LDAP multimaster servers

Research results on safer user management for cloud applications presented

Nowadays, operating IT infrastructures without cloud computing is barely imaginable. At the same time, however, many IT decision makers are hesitant to store sensitive corporate information on the cloud. They prefer to separate confidential data which should remain in the company and data which can be stored on the cloud. These types of hybrid cloud scenarios can only be operated cost-effectively if there is efficient and at the same time secure data matching between the local and cloud-based components. The research and development of the necessary algorithms was performed in cooperation in the scope of the SATCloud project by the employees of the “Cyber-Physical Systems” research department of the German Research Centre for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) and developers at the Bremen-based software producer Univention. The aim of the project is to develop a pilot based on Univention Corporate Server by the middle of next year, which allows selective data matching of LDAP directories between multimaster servers.
