UCS 5.2 Vorankuendigung

We are delighted to announce February 5, 2025, as the official release date for UCS 5.2.
Despite what the version number might suggest, UCS 5.2 marks the first minor release of the UCS 5 series. We have already explained the reasoning behind this in detail in our article “The next UCS Release: Leap to UCS 5.2.

Key Focus Areas of UCS 5.2

The upcoming release focuses on two main areas:

  1. Keycloak as the Sole Identity Provider: With UCS 5.2, Keycloak will take on the central role as the Identity Provider. This change paves the way for modern and future-proof identity management solutions.
  2. Updating the Debian Base: The foundation of UCS will be updated to Debian 12 “Bookworm.” This update includes the latest versions of critical components such as:
  • OpenLDAP 2.5
  • Samba 4.21
  • Docker
  • PostgreSQL

Preparing for the Migration to Keycloak

With the release of UCS 5.2, UCS 5.0 will continue to be supported for at least another year. However, we recommend starting preparations for the migration from SimpleSAMLphp to Keycloak now. A structured process that ensures no disruption to end users is documented in our Migration Guide.

Looking Ahead: 5.0-10 in March 2025

To fully focus on the release of UCS 5.2, UCS 5.0-10, the tenth patch-level release of UCS 5.0, will not be released in December as originally planned. Instead, it will follow the regular release cycle and launch in March 2025. This update will represent the final scheduled patch-level release for UCS 5.0 within the quarterly cycle.

We look forward to presenting UCS 5.2 as a strong release and are available to assist you with any questions or support regarding the migration.
