As reported in the press, the so-called “Heartbleed bug” of the security software OpenSSL enabled the reading of encrypted information.
Icinga, a fork of the monitoring solution Nagios is now available via the Univention App Center and be easily installed. In comparison to Nagios, it distinguishes by a more modern web-based interface and additional data bank connectors.
From now on, the Univention App Center offers an app, which strongly increases the security for UCS-managed IT infrastructures by controlling the access to the company’s WLAN for all users, groups and end devices via the RADIUS protocol.
New instructions on how to convert a fully virtualized, installed UCS system for paravirtualized operation on a Citrix XenServer 6.1 can be found in the Univention Wiki.
The documentation showing practical usage scenarios of UCS at a lawyer’s chambers, a medium-sized machine building company, a corporate group and an educational institution has now been updated to UCS 3.1.
New app for VPN management available in the Univention App Center
Mobile access to corporate infrastructures is becoming ever more widespread and as such so is the necessity to construct secure private networks. These must be easy to manage and it must be possible to mount them in existing IT infrastructures without any problems. For this reason, bytemine GmbH from Oldenburg, Germany, has now developed in OpenVPN4UCS a solution which is integrated in Univention Corporate Server (UCS) and published in this server system’s App Center. It offers companies a cost-effective and easy-to-operate possibility for constructing and managing VPNs.

Bremen, 10th March 2014. Univention GmbH, a leading European provider of Open Source products for the cost-efficient operation and effective administration of IT infrastructures (www.univention.com) will be demonstrating the new, expanded marketplace version of the App Center for the first time at the CeBIT in Hanover (10th-14th March, Hall 6, Booth H15). Users of the enterprise operating system Univention Corporate Server (UCS) can now not only install applications with a click of the mouse in the App Center, but also have the possibility of purchasing the respective app there directly from the supplier. The new function will be used by a number of applications such as the groupware solutions Open-Xchange and Zarafa and the file-sharing platform ownCloud right from the start. Visitors to the Univention booth at the CeBIT will be able to get an idea of the new possibilities of the App Center and experience additional new UCS features such as the AD-Takeover wizard for the simple migration of Active Directory domains, for example.
With the audriga groupware service available in the Univention App Center, UCS offers the integration of a solution, which allows the convenient migration from one groupware to another.
Next to the update to the new Linux-Kernel package version 3.10.26 with improved hardware support and bug fixes, today’s release for UCS contains new features in Univention App Center.
