UCR is the central tool for the management of the local system configuration of a UCS-based system. It releases you from the manual editing of sensitive configuration files.

In this video tutorial we explain how you can easily administrate your local system configuration in Univention Corporate Server via Univention Configuration Registry (UCR).

To begin with go to the overview page of the Univention Management Console. You find the module „Univention Configuration Registry“ underneath the tab „system“.

Display of existing variables

The module Univention Configuration Registry gives you an overview of all UCR variables that already exist. Besides, you’ve got the possibility to simplify your search for a variable by activating a search filter in the text field on the left-hand side of the monitor. Using this filter you can search for a certain category, a search attribute or a search keyword. The results will be displayed after the search.

Defining new variables

Via the button „Add“ you can define new variables. In order for you to understand the process of adding a UCR variable, we assume in our video the example that once we enter the server’s IP address, we would like to be guided directly to the Univention Management Console and not to the UCS overview page.

To now set this variable, please enter „apache“ in the search field and wait for the results. You will be shown the variables that are available for further processing. When you click now on „apache2/startsite“, a window opens in which you can change the variables. It also includes a short description of the UCR variable helping you to better understand it.

You can now change the value of the UCR variable. In our case enter „univention-management-console/“ in order to be guided to the UMC. Then click on „Save“ to save the changes.

Testing the new UCR variable

Open now a browser of your choice and enter the IP address of the UCS server. You are now guided directly to the login mask of the UMC.

Deleting a UCR variable

If you want to delete a variable, activate the check box behind the corresponding variable. Further buttons will now be displayed including the „delete“ button. To confirm the deletion process, simply click on „delete“.
