Today, we released the first milestone of Univention Corporate Server 4.1. Prominent features of Univention Corporate Server 4.1 will include the addition of Docker-based applications in the App Center, the implementation of SSO (Single Sign-On) authentication via SAML (Security Assertion Markup Language), as well as new package versions, such as Samba 4.3 and Linux kernel 4.1 LTS. The LDAP packages have been updated as well in this development version.

By implementing Docker-based apps into the distribution, there will be no more issues with conflicts between different versions of a software library. The open-source Docker Linux container engine will make sure that the deployment of apps in Univention Corporate Server 4.1 is greatly simplified by using dedicated containers.

Another interesting feature in UCS 4.1 will be that the Univention Corporate Server management system will support the new built-in Single Sign-On via SAML authentication technology out of the box. This is a business feature for all customers of the Debian-based UCS server-oriented operating system, enabling them to use single logins to the environment.

While the final release of the Univention Corporate Server 4.1 operating system is planned for mid-November 2015, users can download the first milestone release right now and take the Linux kernel-based OS for a test drive. Just try to keep in mind that this is a pre-release version, not suitable for deployment on production environments.

A description of these and further UCS highlights, the outstanding tasks and a description about how to activate the Test App Center can be found in the Univention Wiki.
