New app for VPN management available in the Univention App Center
Mobile access to corporate infrastructures is becoming ever more widespread and as such so is the necessity to construct secure private networks. These must be easy to manage and it must be possible to mount them in existing IT infrastructures without any problems. For this reason, bytemine GmbH from Oldenburg, Germany, has now developed in OpenVPN4UCS a solution which is integrated in Univention Corporate Server (UCS) and published in this server system’s App Center. It offers companies a cost-effective and easy-to-operate possibility for constructing and managing VPNs.
Oldenburg/Bremen, 3rd April 2014. In OpenVPN there is now an Open Source solution available for the construction of virtual private networks. Over the past ten years, this software has evolved into one of the standard solutions for the connection of mobile users and home offices, and that not just in the Open Source field: there are clients for OpenVPN available on all standard platforms.
With the presentation of the otherwise sometimes quite demanding administrative tasks of OpenVPN in the web-based management system of Univention Corporate Server (UCS), bytemine has now created a VPN solution for organizations of all sizes which is easy to implement and manage. At the same time, the scope of functions of UCS has also been expanded with the newly developed app in the “Providing external accesses” section. Administrators can now assign users a VPN access via the Univention Management Console with just a click of the mouse. The encapsulation of the creation of user certificates and authentications represents a significant simplification. The solution generates a “ready2go package” for the users, which contains the complete client configuration and the security certificates. The generation is based on the public key infrastructure of UCS.
OpenVPN4UCS is available as an app in the Univention App Center and can be set up with just a few clicks of the mouse.
